that is a great deal...but anyone have experience with Sony's odd file format and I know the memory stick pro duo is another thing to think about...all overlookable given the price though
Cheapest buy it now for a brand new HDR-CX100 on eBay is $329.99 shipped. Plus you don't get the added benefit of being able to easily return it for a full refund if you aren't happy with it. Good deal OP!

I have one of the first generation AVCHD camcorders from Sony...great purchase although I paid an arm and a leg for it.
I bought this couple of months ago and very happy with it's quality. It is pretty good in indoor lighting conditions too.
Memory sticks are pricey. But I bought a microSD memory stick adapter from eBay for $2 and bought a 8GB microSD for 8$. Make it 10 bucks for a 8GB memory stick and it works just fine.
Best thing is you can connect it to the laptop and just copy the clips and pictures. I had a DCR-TRV50 for which I paid ~1500 dollars with MiniDV which still works fine. But I got tired of the constant ripping and buying of tapes. And bought this for $355 couple of months ago from Amazon.
I saw the price for Pro duo 2 Memory stick and it was some 30 bucks. You mentioned "But I bought a microSD memory stick adapter from eBay for $2 and bought a 8GB microSD for 8$. Make it 10 bucks for a 8GB memory stick and it works just fine."
Can you let me know more about the microSD memorty stick adapter/card. If you can send me the link to understand. I could not find it.
Also, how long does a fully charged battery long? I am planning to get this soon
Any suggestion for the cover/case of the camcorder JR

You guys better check out the new released model, CX110 and CX550V, quite a lot of differences when capturing low light situations, from this previous generation model. Search youtube for CX550V.

I'm sure the CX550V is a much better camera, but it also cost 4x as much at $1,200
