Can you please correct the title? It's the router that is free, AS LONG AS YOU LEASE A MODEM from Comcast (I actually stopped leasing a modem from them this year after they bumped my modem price to $5.00/month).
"Eligibility:
-To qualify, you must currently lease a High-Speed Internet modem or a Digital Voice modem from Comcast. Please check your bill to see if you currently lease a modem. -Qualifying customers can receive one wireless router."

Where did you buy a modem? I wouldn't mind getting rid of that fee.

Bought a Motorola SB6120 off Amazon for about $85 (there was a deal for it a few weeks back on FW though, so deals may pop up again). I wanted a modem that featured DOCSIS 3.0, since they have the upgraded lines in my area (Atlanta). I figure even if for some reason I have to sell the modem for $25 at the end of the year (unlikely scenario), I'm still breaking even over going with Comcast.
Any idea if any of those cable modems also support VOIP lines? It looks like the Arris TM702G does.

Still working great after four months. I pulled a D-link and put that in a closet for a backup. The thing to remember is when you first install your own modem, connect your computer directly to the modem, don't use a router until after it is up and running. When you start your computer and modem, a Comcast box will popup and ask if you are a Comcast tech or customer. Choose customer and enter your account number. Mine was up and running immediately.

what good is this offer if they don't give you specifics about the router such as brand and model number ?
There is no guarantee which modem you'll get. Most customers get the WNR1000. If you have their Ultra or Extreme speed package then you get a router with Wireless N and Gigabit ethernet. If you have one of the lower end speed packages, then you'll get the lower end router.

I am an employee at Comcast and routers we carry are Netgear WNR1000 which is a "N" router. It may vary system to system.
* One-time shipping and handling fee of $9.95 for a Self-installation Kit or one-time professional installation fee applies. * Wireless routers are property of Comcast, and must be returned if service is cancelled. * Router availability varies by area.
BestBuy currently has the Motorola SB6120 on sale for $85, for those who want to ditch their leased modems. I bought one just recently and it works great. It's DOCSIS 3.0 compliant, etc.
I would be VERY cautious about this. If/when you get rid of your service, you will have to return this router. If you can't, I doubt that they will charge you a decent replacement price. I would bet on having to pay the full MSRP.

What do you mean/plan on doing with this router exactly? I don't know about you, but mine just sits in one place for years at a time. The worst thing that happens to it is maybe excess dust accumulation. It doesn't seem like something that's going to be easily lost.

I called and they said they are not stocking them in the support centers due to high demand and they would have to ship which means you would incur the shipping fee.

If Best Buy has a coupon out for the holiday weekend, I will pick one of these up on Saturday.
Even without the coupon, the breakeven is only 17 months.
its good to get a free one from comcast so you can call them 24hrs a day complaining to them about no internet connection. they already fail miserably with their miniature modems now they are relying on netgear to back them up. lol have fun!!! All you MAC users get ready to dial comcast for complaints.

I don't get it, if you have an ethernet computer, you're a MAC user. I can't think of a computer sold today that doesn't have MAC, even my sheeva plug did.
I got my modem from Goodwill. Check college towns around May/June. A ton of students buy then just drop their modem when cleaning stuff out at the end of the year.

The Motorola SBG900 was offered through ComcastOffers and it's a combo cable modem + 802.11b/g WiFi router. It has WPA but not WPA2, though.

we ordered this a month ago....then never got it. we called and were told we must've done something wrong when we ordered b/c the order wasn't placed. weird. so ok, we're humble enough to admit maybe something didn't go thru just right, so a rep stayed on the phone and walked hubby thru 2nd order. waited 2 more weeks, no router. they said, again, it was us who did something wrong b/c no order was placed. ha! i think they have a prob w/their ordering sys and are trying to put it off on the cust. we still don't have it yet...wonder if it'll ever come??

Does anyone know if they have a wireless N router for the @home telephone service? I had to purchase a third-party N access point to hang off my T-Mobile g router to get an N network.

I have this modem (after using a Toshiba modem that was 8+ years old and only DOCSIS1.1). I got about a 10 fold increase in speed. Comcast said there was nothing wrong but the modem had lousy speeds.
