I tried searching this in the forums but nothing came up.

Walgreens...yes of all the places...is selling a 4GB Meizu MP3/MP4 Portable Media Player for 99$

Pretty good reviews and plays WMV/MP3/OGG/WAV/XviD files. Also has an FM tuner and games(?).

i bought a white one today and will post more when i get to play around with it.

here is the Link

Those "reviews" are pretty suspect, but green anyway because Walgreens will take anything back in store, even if you buy it online.

This unit got great reviews from dapreview, a great resource for all things portable and media related...

Nice price too - green for you. More images available at OldEgg.

4gb sd card $24.99
no name sd mp3 player $19.99
why would anyone pay $99.99
for the meizu when anyone
can have the same for much less.

Looks pretty good. Any idea how the image quality is on it?

this is a great price for a great player! please show me how i can have the 'same' for much less...and i mean - which no-name sd mp3 player + which 4gb card and then finally tell me how much it will all cost...

joke, right?

4gb sd - rebate risk
no-name mp3 player - lack of 2.4" tft screen, fm tuner, video, possible *unix support, decent gui, etc..

as it said in dapreview, this thing gives apple products a real run for the money, if you don't mind the brand. With the barebones approach you're taking, you're looking at screenless mp3 players (like the shuffle), not this.

I bought the 2 gb version for my wife last year and I have to say these are very good media players. I am planning to buy one myself.
The battery life is amazing and the sound and video quality is exceptional. Great value for the price.
You can always jump on the meizume forums for help.

Here are a couple of issues I've had with it:
1) The touch controls can be a bit sensitive at times
2) Some of my FLAC files will not play
3) Some videos, if not properly sized and/or encoded will leave you with a black screen. (you need to know how to do a hard reset using the buttons)

this is very tempting...unfortunately i have my eyes set on the new samsung mp3 players...but this is really nice...

If you check FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) hardware site,

FLAC Hardware

There is a MEIZU M6 Miniplayer. Is it the same one with this ?
M6 get good reviews; though it's a rising name in China, not globaly, so far.

Yes it is the same one.

i have the 4gb black meizu m6. got it for $115 shipped from eBay. haha. it works. what i like about this player is the constant upgrade of the firmware. it have some bugs but whatever. still cheaper than the nano.

You should not have even considered anything BUT green, anyone who knows the market knows that this player is a market leader despite it's allegedly stolen design traits. The number of posts from clueless individuals like the person who said you can get a no name MP3 player with SD card and be happy posting in this thread is amazing. This product is at the very least as good as any comparable player to come out of creative/apple and some armchair warrior compares it to a cheapo sd card based 99 cent special? Do some research before you guys post, if you have never heard of Meizu then you probably shouldn't post saying what its equals are. It's a solid player.

great mp3( meizu m6 ) from china, i have one.

very very solid mp3.

Wow, this thing looks amazing...

Plays xvid? Does it require converting? Would it work if I just dragged and dropped an .avi file on there? (ex. anime, in xvid or mp4 format).

you would need to convert/re-encode to a smaller res, lower bitrate, lower framerate.

from the what i saw in the reviews i think its possible to just drag and drop .avi but if not they give you a program to convert it.

all in all i personally would rather go through the extra bit of hassle than buying episodes off itunes.

This player is MEIZU MiniPlayer, and its nickname is MEIZU M6. I bought a 4G TP version with luxury pack from China. TP version uses Toshiba screen, while SP version uses SAMSUNG screen. TP version is better, but now you can only buy an SP version.

Both TP version and SP version have the same quality except the screen. It's a good player with good price. But to be honest, when you play movies on it, the speed is a little bit slow, although it can play XviD encoded Avis. I'd rather watch movies on my PPC phone.

I would recommend you guys to buy one. Who will always watch movie on an MP3 player? Come on, it's not a PSP!

Thanks OP ... Got a Walgreens across the street in case I need to return it. Also noticed they have covers for them on eBay should I decide to keep it.

Looks similar, though not exact like this one from uxcell.com

Maybe the same origional design manufacturer in Hong Kong?

Uxcell is spotty on customer service and takes forever to ship, so not presenting this as an option though. They generally have suprisingly good quality products though.

The one bad thing about this player is that it doesn't have expandable memory slot.

like 90% of the mp3 player out today.

am I missing something, or is this just $20 off the regular price?

The one I got for my wife is this 2 GB model with SD slot. Also has mp4/FM/ebook reader/voice recorder etc...
Not bad for about $65 shipped.

Lots of 2GB sd deals lately.

I've never owned anything like this. Is there a program that can compress and reformat a DVD to work on this? How big would the file be for a full length movie (how many can I fit)? I've been looking for a new MP3 player, but this seems like an interesting alternative to lugging my laptop along with me on business trips where I want a movie to watch on the plane. Thanks in advance!

I have a similar one and I've used Xilisoft mp4 converter and also this one that is a bit more simple.

It took at 2 hour movie and at 224 x 176 and 20 frames per second (715 kbs) it was a 500mb file.

Another thing that I've done is use a dvd ripper and rip the 8 or so vobs onto my computer and then convert them file by file - I've liked having a few files more than just 1 big one since there is less problems with video and audio getting out of synch and also it is easier to find your place after a long break.

For more specs on this player see Here. The 260k color display and 2.4 inches is nice. Until you can fold a screen, I think this is the biggest screen that you can slip into your shirt pocket.

Does the one you bought play ogg and/or flac files?
Does it have a standard headphone jack, or only the extra-small jack?

Thanks!

Ipods, Macbooks, xbox360...are all made in China. They have some really high quality factories there.

My bad, Newegg did not mention the FM tuner when I looked at the specs.
