Grabbed one of these the last time they were up. The video codec is not handled well by many editors and requires conversion. Battery pack is proprietary and good luck finding a non OEM one. Battery life is pretty short too, just under an hour. Great video quality though.

I also bought one of these in the last sale. Video quality is very good, but only 720P. The .MTS files can be used directly in Win7's version of MovieMaker and also using Serif's MoviePlus X5 (currently free AR at Office Depot if purchased with your tax software this year.) MoviePlus is very much like MovieMaker (and has the timeline view that was removed in the latest version of MM for Win7 -- the old XP version had a timeline view.)
The stock battery that comes with the camcorder does not last very long, but you can get non-OEM batteries for around $30. These basically work as external power supplies and while they do mount on the camera's battery slot, they don't provide power or charge on the camcorder (you need to use a separate charger.) However, these batteries have like 3x the charge capacity, so it's a decent tradeoff for having to deal with a separate cable to plugin.
1) This replacement battery without decoding does not exist the compatibility problem with the original JVC series corresponding machines. The battery and the connection line consist of the replacement as a whole set.
