Intel Core i7 Processor
Intel Hyper-Threading; 4 Core - 8 Threads; 3CH DDR3 800/1066
$259.99

http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2010/09/03/49606/Intel-C...

Price good from Sep 03, 2010 through Sep 09, 2010.

Good price for sure. I think I'll wait and see if MicroCenter starts stocking these as they generally WAAAAY undercut everyone else on CPU prices.

4 core and 8 threads! I want (but can't yet afford) one!!!

btw, any recommendations for a good, not too pricey mobo for this guy? (atx, triple channel DDR3)

how much better is this chip compare to 930?

Well, I think this is a pretty good price for a X58 at $179.00 after $20.00 off coupon at Newegg: Use coupon code: MBTEN92

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

If you can go with dual channel DDR3, the cheapest MB is $50AR

This would make it a i7 combo deal for $310AR.
It is possible you can build a i7 for under $500.

that is the incorrect board for the i7 950 poisonz. the board you speak of is a socket LGA 1156 and the CPU the OP is putting the hot deal for is for a CPU that is for a LGA 1366 socket.

I bought an i7-860 CPU thinking it would work with my gigabyte EX58-UD5 in january of this year I've been sitting on both the CPU and the mobo due to incompatibility and the fact I bought it on eBay and if I repost it I'll be out money due to the price drops after I purchased the darn thing. I'd rather just use it and find a decent board for a hackintosh i7-860 LGA1156. I believe they make three different i7 socket CPUs beaware buyers, don't make my mistake.

Thanks, yeah that's actually precisely the board I was eying and was hoping someone could find something comparable for even cheaper. It's a battle for how good of a mobo vs how large of a capacity SSD right now for me

Well, I think that's the cheapest right now. They had some B-Stock EVGA x58's a few weeks ago for $80 over at EVGA's website. It's gone up now to $119 for the B-Stock if you want to go that route.
EVGA x58

That MB will NOT work with this processor. It's an 1156 (P55) MB. You need a 1366 (X58) MB.

How about the Asus Rampage 3 Extreme for this CPU

Wait on those SSDs, Intel's roadmap shows they're releasing upgraded capacities in the 4Q and the 1Q of 2011, we're talking 160, 300gb, etc: LINK

so did intel officially replaced the 930 with 950?

Wow...950 for 260. It used to be like $580. Very tempting. But it would be at most 10% performance improvement from my 920.
I will wait for other higher-end i7 chips to drop.. The prices for DDR3 modules have increased too much. They were like 12/GB when I bought them...

I heard about oc wise
920-930-950 oc to similar ranges?

doubtful that it would be anywhere near a 10% performance improvement, since all of these 1366 chips come from the same die... 2-4% improvement at the most.

what you gain is a slightly easier ability to overclock, because of the multipliers.

kind of a moot question anyway, since frys is sold out of the chip, at least here on the west coast.

Nice price for sure . Not sure Iam willing to part with my 920 though .

wait for it to drop in next few weeks to $199.99

I just found on Microcenter website that they have a page for this product: here and it's listed for $250, but it's "out of stock" everywhere. I imagine this page is preparatory and will be up as soon as they get it in stock. Not $200 as most of us had hoped, but still the best price yet.
