I was looking for these noise reduction, black out curtain panels for our upcoming baby room/there goes my office... And I found these on sale at Bed Bath and BEYOND~~~for pretty good price, since I found them at other places selling around $40ish~
Here is the link, hope it'll be useful for those who need it: LINK And please do share if you find cheaper and better alternatives
I was recently researching blackout curtains as a way to eliminate noise more than light. When googling, I came upon a lengthy blog of some guy trying every blackout curtain made to create his home theater. He took high beam flashlights with him. He determined that most of them are not really adequate except the Eclipse Robert(the only one for full blackout of light and good for sound) and the Robert Suede, can't remember th style name, great for sound, not perfect for light. They were available exclusively at JC Penney at the time, and are frequently on sale. If you go with these, please post back about their effectiveness for sound. Good luck!
Oh! One more important note. Many of these are treated with strong chemicals. You may want to research before using in a babies room. And Congratulations!!
We bought the eclipse panels for our new place in March, ended up returning them for something at Target. Our decision was part price, and part looks of the one we picked up. I'm sure at the 15-25 price I would've kept the Eclipse ones (not that we have BBB here)

Are you able to comment on its noise blocking features?
From the day my kids were born we never hush hushed when they were asleep...of course we didn't speak loudly but maintained normal volumes. The main reason for this is to get them used to sound and not wake up at the slightest of disturbance. Now both my kids are relatively sound sleepers...I don't know if what we did helped or not...but something to think about.

Totally worth EVERY penny. We have these in our living room, but for our bedroom my gf wanted a diff look (non darkening/sound dampening ones). I'm not sure how to explain it, but we're on the ground floor. My kitchen window is ground level for that side of our unit. So when it rains, it's very loud. Not to mention it rains 90% of the year. The windows with the sound/light panels are very quiet, the windows with the regular panels very noisy. Also doesn't block out light very well. We'll be swapping the bedroom set when we have the time.
For true noise reduction, fill the window sill with DENSE STYLE thick CHARCOAL foam. There are eBay sellers who will quote you on specific sizes. 737 Airplanes fly over my bedroom, and I have 3" foam filling all 3 windows. Helps ALOT. And, light is totally blocked of course.
Why not live in a cave instead? Oh wait, you kind of do....

If you want to feel the fabrics and see the colors in person WalMart sells this brand for just as cheap or cheaper and they have more of a selection. They are very nice curtains. Thanks OP!

At the risk of going off subject, we use noise machines with our kids. I wasn't a believer at first, but it raises the noise floor and other noises are less disturbing. We started off with the cheap digital ones but ended up with the marpac model.

Yes, definately somethig to think about, just worried since our soon to be baby room window faces the street, and some of these people driving by at the nights are...hm...to put it nicely...crazy.

why does 1 panel mean? Does that mean a set of curtains (so both left and right side), or just one side?

I got the cheap ones at Target and put them under my regular nice curtains. I used a tension rod to keep them right inside the window frame and they do not show. In Texas the heat and sun are very strong and even with wood blinds & drapes the sun still comes in without them. I also got liners at JCP but they are more expensive. If you get a light bone color they don't really show through the curtains and with a tension rod you can always quickly take them off if you want the light. They really help with the utility bills.

I don't see this exact curtain at WalMart online. They have the eclipse crinkle blackout curtain which is a different style.

The Eclipse panels come in different styles so you might like other variations. This one is the Amanda style. There are also others like Theodore, Sanderson and Alfred.
Target has the Eclipse blackout curtains on clearance. I saw them yesterday while I was at the Millerville store in Baton Rouge. This of course means that it's a huge YMMV as to when other stores will clearance them out, and at what percentage of discount. Sadly I didn't pay enough attention to them to check pricing and model name, but I did notice them as my wife, a NICU nurse, used to work the night shift and had some for her apartment before we got married and she moved to the day shift. Just another alternative for those who need them.
just picked up 2 in store to hang in front of a sliding door. if you are buying more than 1, remember to bring in multiple 20% single item coupons and they'll let you use em all.
also, they'll email you a coupon when you sign up for email/direct mail in case you already threw the one in the mail out: http://app.bedbathandbeyond.com/prefs/pref.cfm?src=header&

Found a ton at the Burbank BBB. They were all with the regular curtains, not the clearance items in the front of the store. Great deal, w/ printable online 20% coupon. THANKS OP!

Been looking for blackout curtains for a while, GREAT find and very happy I looked here.
Thanks! Been looking for a while... now does anyone have any good deals on curtain rods?
I've read that once I get the order, I can take them with the receipt and the 20% off coupons to my local store and get credited for the difference. I plan to try it... my store was out of everything but three different colors of the 84" panels, so I ordered online.

Glad my post benefited everyone...as for rod, I bought these rods from Ikea, I haven't see a better quality rod in these price ranges yet:
My home theater room is in my walkout daylight basement. It has a pair of french patio doors which open to the outside. I like to cover them with something like these blackout drapes; however, I would like the drapes to be anchored by rods both at top and at bottom. I'm guessing these Eclipse are not hemmed to accept a lower rod---can someone confirm? I assume it would not be too hard to hem a set if so.

Does anyone know of a one piece curtain that spans a sliding door opening? I can use 2 pieces - but I don't need the seem in the middle.

For those wanting to use these in a home theater, read the second post by denysel. I went to BBB and held these up to the light. They are not true blackout shades. No way would these work in my HT.
I am looking for curtains that are good for insulation; meaning, to reduce or eliminate draft or block cold air from windows and patio door. Is Eclipse curtains good for insulation?

From the web page: "Panels measure 52" W"
Being a seamstress, The average width for a single panel is 52" unless you order something custom made. But the "s" on Panels is confusing. I think it's a typo and/or they are assuming you will buy more than one panel
