I'm holding out for the 194 in 1 reader. This seems too limited.

LoL. It wasn't long ago when 12-in-1 was a lot. It looks like manufactures are starting to add long-obsolete card types to boost that #, then they'll start even using different card colors as a "different type".

27% neg ratings on this one.

I've used these in a few builds. I can normally pick them up for ~$12 shipped, and they are well worth it. I haven't had any problems with the ones that I've installed.

These prices are ridiculous. Try $2.74 shipped link

Does that Drive smell like Cheap rubber... LOL

I've got the Roswell Drive - and it works fine for me - although I don't use it frequently. I don't know if there are any of these drives that would get 5 stars on a Review site - since it's so easy to put the card in wrong - there's plenty or room for User error in most Card readers.

I had a rosewill too. Lasted about a week before the computer wouldn't detect it anymore.

It seems like all of these require a motherboard header - why? I could create a crude replacement by hooking up a 20-in-1 card reader and a USB hub to USB ports. So why isn't there a 3.5 in internal adapter that can be plugged into a USB port? I have a Dell without a motherboard header - any suggestions (other than going a for a new PC?)

Most of the internal readers use a mobo header, but I have seen some that will also work with an external USB port. Of course all of the external readers use a typical USB port. If you want an internal reader that uses an external USB port, I don't remember seeing any, but maybe try Cyberguys for an adapter. I think you may be able to use one of those USB header brackets backwards. It's what connects to a mobo's internal USB headers to give external USB ports. But you would need a gender adapter for that to work.

Thanks, Clint1. Will check that out. I want to use an internal reader and have USB ports inside the case from a USB PCI card. But no mobo header = no internal reader, so far.

may find it cheaper at e bay.

I completely forgot about that (no sleep), USB PCI cards are cheap and you can get one that also has internal USB headers, or one that only has internal headers. Then you can use any internal card reader hooked to the PCI card's USB header.

The Amazon link product has a single row of pins. The Rosewill pix looks like the socket has 2 rows of pins. Will it work? Do I need to get 2 of the cables that are on the Amazon link?

Each row of pins is one port. I am guessing the Rosewill uses one port for the card reader and one for the USB port. But I am guessing here...

If you want two ports, take a look of item 170522299248 at e bay.

No. Like Jim said, (yes), one USB port/header is 1 row of 5 pins. Yes, the readers that have a front USB port will have a 2x 5-pin connector; one for the front USB port and one for card reader functions. Most of the PCI USB cards will have a 2x 5-pin header, but you only need to use one of them for a single USB connection.

But that one at Amazon looks to be the opposite of what you need. Mobo headers and PCI card headers are male connectors, and that cable at the Amazon page is a male connector so it wouldn't work. You can see the pins.

Just get a PCI USB card (with internal USB header pins) and you can connect any internal card reader to it.

I believe the one I linked from Amazon will do the job. However, I think getting a PCI card is a better route since they cost about the same. Never have too many USB ports.

I don't see how it can because it's the wrong gender. You can't plug in a male connector to a male connector.....right?

If you zoom in on the connector of the card reader at the product page of NE, you will see it is a female connector.

Oh, we were talking about the image at Amazon, see above. He asked "Do I need to get 2 of the cables that are on the Amazon link?".

Not sure where we are anymore... Anyway, we both agree that a PCI card is a better way to go. I think the e bay item I posted will work and is cheaper than getting two cables.

It started with this post.

Yeah that would work, and it looks like it has two internal headers.
