Was walking around best buy and happen to notice a laptop (brown Toshiba box) sitting on the best buy table display table by itself, asked the cashier to scan and it rang up $629. This model is on clearance, this is a big YMMV but the store on B'way and 62nd st (NYC) had it. So good luck to all and YMMV.

FYI, this was not an open box deal. This was flagged to be on clearance. This is a ridiculous price for a i7 quad core machine.

Yes. Drive to the store and ask them. Alternatively, you could call the store and ask, at which point an employee would probably buy it for him or herself.

we are in deflation era. I am convinced all prices will be heading lower, unless you have to buy something right now.

Hey Guys...

Any help will be really appreciated.... I am looking to buy this laptop, but am unable to search using the sku on the site.... Can anyone please post a link or look it up for me... I am in the LA area....

Thanks a lot

Maxie

Rumor is that Intel just dropped prices on the i7 950 yesterday by nearly 50% and we'll see a ripple effect in cpu prices all dropping in the next week or so. It'll probably take a while longer for that to affect prebuilt laptop/desktop prices though.

Okay.... Jus called the closest BB store.... He said they were out of stock (no wonder) and that there were 3 different stores which still carried this laptop. So now I'm plannin to go check it out. Can someone tell me what are the 'good & bad' details about this laptop.

Thanks a lot for your help.... You guys jus rock....

The video card isn't exactly top of the line, so if you're planning to play the most demanding games, you may have to bump down the settings a little. Other than that, though, there's not much that isn't great about it...especially for the price.

I actually got this lappy for a friend. He's loving it. He likes the speakers the most, no complaints about really anything. He says the computer can get a bit hot when running multiple apps but nothing too crazy. You can check out the Toshiba A665-s6056 that they have out in most best buys. It is similar to the S6033, i believe the speakers are the same. The major diff is the processor and battery life (obviously higher proc req more power). This battery life is clocked at about 2 3/4 hrs - prolly full load.

First of all, this is not a gaming laptop. Most of the serious gamers I know spent $1,000 or more for top end equipment. So to knock this deal down because you have to "bump down the settings a little" is a bit ridiculous & ignorant. Why would you complain about the gaming capabilities - this model is not intended to be in the same category. I also have a hard time believing you have any experience with this chipset.

Secondly, $629 for a laptop with the i7 core is a solid deal in my opinion. Have you shopped around for a laptop with a i7 core lately? What model(s) have you found that are in the same price range? Most of the i5 & i7 core laptops I have found are atleast in the $700 range if not more. Give me some links that have comparable speeds/specs to this Toshiba model with the i7 core.

I went to BB store down in Detroit are, but the price is still $809.00

Can you not read?

Why is it not a gaming laptop? It's got a Core i7 and a decent GPU in it. I sure as hell would play games on it if I owned it. How was I knocking the deal? It's a great deal and I said as much. He asked about the pros and cons of it, and given the specs, the less than top end GPU was about the only thing you could say wasn't top notch, so I pointed that out. I wasn't "knocking" anything, and I wasn't "complaining" about anything either. How exactly is that ridiculous and ignorant?

Chewy said: I also have a hard time believing you have any experience with this chipset.

Way to go Sherlock. I don't have any experience with the "chipset" (I guess your're referring to the GPU, not actually the chipset), but I am actually able to read some benchmarks and see how it performs...and it performs quite well (again, hence why I would argue that this is, or at least can be, a gaming laptop).

Again, I SAID that this is a great deal, so no, I don't have any links to provide. That's why I gave this green. Why don't you relax a little and stop acting like a spoiled child.

Why don't you learn how to write half decent sentence for a change? You write like a 5-yr old on crack.

I'm done feeding the troll. I guess you're essentially admitting that you went on an insane diatribe because you couldn't understand my sentence. Sorry for throwing an appositive and a prepositional phrase at you all at the same time.

NVIDIA® GeForce® 310M, because of this video card, I wouldn't got it.

Has i7 processor and 4 gig memory, yet only supports 720p resolution? Something seems mismatched in this arrangement.

6.48 lbs. It is like carrying a mountain

arct said: 16.0" widescreen HD TruBrite® LCD Display

This should be criminalized

resolution kills it.

It's the low resolution that makes the video card capable of playing some games. This computer is mainly for people that plan to do a lot of calculations that require the powerful processor like converting DVD movies. Would have been nice if it had a BluRay player on it.

Can anybody post the Windows Experience rating for this laptop?

chicoedge said: Can anybody post the Windows Experience rating for this laptop?Based on the specs, most likely 4.9 due to the video card. The Aero desktop rating should get a 4.9. The 3D gaming graphics rating should be 6.0 after upgrading the drivers. The processor would get about a 7.0.

Okay this is mismatched alright:

NVIDIA® GeForce® 310M >> http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html Gaming is more than SIMS3

500GB HDD (5400rpm) ...5400RPM need I say more? Wonder why laptops were always slower than desktops, this is main culprit.

16:9 aspect ratio, Supports 720p content, 1366x768 << ewww 1366x768, at least my 3 yr old HP Dv7t is 1440x900!
and 720p - why bother?
10/100 Ethernet LAN << not even gigabit!?!?!?

Yeah if you want a high end QuadCore processer with it's guts cut and laying on the floor that it can't get up, sure it is a deal. Think I will take my money and invest in a better setup. - Sorry not a good deal

Can we rip this deal up some more please? You're playing $629 for a bargain laptop not a $1200 gaming machine. Jeez, tough crowd man.

I'm sure someone out there would find this a good deal and could share their experience.

I agree about the mismatch. But seeing deals like this make me appreciate my own laptop even more even though I wasn't very happy with it when I first got it due to a similar mismatch. I paid $749 for a Sony Vaio with similar specs with the same processor and video card, but mine had a 1600x900 screen, bluray, bluetooth, 6GB 1333MHz memory and 500GB 7200rpm drive.

Expired.

Haha...I was thinking the same thing. C'mon spill the beans.

does anyone know any deals out there that can run well on the new FFXIV online game on a decent laptop around $800 dollars range? i thought this was good enough for that game. please help!

If above doesn't work, try this one:

Went to the store yesterday. None in Southeastern PA.

do they even carry this laptop anymore?

Doubt it. The best buy i grabbed this from had this on the clearance table. You'd be lucky to find this anymore. Your next bet is to wait until BF or get a Dell outlet computer using 15% coupon.
