Many of us suspect "Refurbished" is just a method used by manufacurers to justify lower prices on overstock without teeing off their Retailers.

I have purchased dozens of "Refurbished" items that were clearly Brand New, and only one or two that had some dust on them and may have been repaired.

I really doubt that. You think all these FWers shying away from refurbs are snobby people?

In general, you get a 15" screen, AND it's refurb, AND you have to pay S&H? Maybe if it was $9.99+S&H.

I've purchased several Brother HL-2140 Laser Printers from Staples (for myself, friends, and the company I work for).

There's a reason these are OOS 99% of the time - they are an amazing deal ! I've also purchased the HL-2140 Brand New - and there is simply no difference at all.

Yes, I do think that anyone who shys away from Refurbished Products is either awash with excess Cash, or is simply a Chump.

Yeah, only chimp's don't buy refurbs. Btw for the earlier poster, I highly doubt they pass new retail stock off as refurb unless the item didn't meet their QA standards coming off the line or unless it's a return from store stock (purchased or unpurchased).

This is a 6+ yr old 4:3 ratio LCD with 25 ms typical response time. Check out this dated review:

I purchased new 19" widescreen LCD's for less from deals here at FW.

These SPECIFIC monitors are probably 6 years old as well.

How do you "refurbish" a 6 year old monitor and sell it shipped for $70? You turn it on and see if it works. If not, you toss it in the dumpster.

If it works OK, you clean the screen and the plastic cabinet with Formula 409, stick a label on it, stick it in a box, and it is refurbished.

All to save $30, since new WS 19" or 20" can be had for under $100.

I think not.

Who in their right mind would buy 15" LCD monitor now? not even if its new at $69.99

nsh!t. i'd sell my 19" 1440x900 to you for that much if you'd like.

I have purchased Dell refurb monitors, and trust me they were refurbs! They were just thrown in a box just as it had been returned to Dell by some customer that decided they didn't want it. It was just as shiny and perfect just like a new one. But it was $100 cheaper, so for that kind of savings I don't care how they packed it as long as it worked and didn't get damaged in shipping!
