Second post of the week! I'm on a buying binge

linky

Don't bother looking if you're not a fan of the deep red color. I was looking for a replacement camera for my hot girlfriend (<3) after a clumsy stranger dropped hers while trying to take a picture of us. Thank goodness for the 3 year accidental spill warranty (paid us back the full amount of $150 for her SD1200)! Of course we got this camera with the same warranty.

Almost forgot to mention it comes with a 4gb adata sd card for free but you'll have to add that to your basket. I read online that ADATA is same OEM with other better known names out there but correct me if I'm wrong.

This was the best deal I found. So here's a camera for you guys to get yourselves, your hot girlfriends or wives or daughters.

Enjoy!

Not too kind a word (clumsy) for a stranger that was nice enough trying to do you a favor.

Good deal though.

Double post. Sorry!

I'd give the stranger a break. That's the price you pay for having a small, hard to handle slippery camera that takes mediocre pictures and OK video.....

^^Ouch. This camera is tiny and can be tough to handle, but it's a really great point and shoot for those wanting something nice and tiny.

Thanks OP.

OP, you are smitten by your current 'hot' girlfriend - and your post makes no bones about it. Hope it lasts.

But don't let that cloud your courtesy for someone that offered to shoot you and your 'hot' girlfriend - when you hand a camera to another person, you are automatically buying into that risk. So a little more respect and little less teentalk would do you good.

Coming to the camera itself, you can Red me all you want but this is INDEED a mediocre camera. In all respects. Canon has the muscle power to move anything they make by getting the general uninformed public to buy into their hype. While their specialized high end DSLR's are worthy of praise, their low end Point and Shoot offerings are very high priced for what they offer in terms of bang for the buck. By dominating and monopolizing just about every niche market that they themselves have helped create with a crushing budget, they can continue this practice.

My wife insisted on getting an SD1000 2 years ago (or 3) and regrets every bit - there's rarely a decent picture from it. On the contrary, a Fuji F650 I purchased a year earlier for about $50 lesser was worlds apart in terms of visual quality (until a clumsy me dropped it recently onto concrete) You can also not beat the F series from Fuji. And relax, am not a Fuji fanboi.

True, a picture is subjective in its appeal, but more often than not, a Canon's P&S's picture is forcibly made to appeal until someone cries out 'the emperor has no clothes'

Fuji's offerings are so much better in terms of bang for the buck and quality. Too bad their service sucks. Olympus has also cornered themselves into shitty P&S offerings. Sony's are not that bad. Less talked about Nikon's the better (in their P&S range)..Samsungs are not bad at all, surprisingly. But one company that has consistently maintained a great track record in the P&S world is Panasonic with their Lumix series. Tad expensive but well worth the cost. Canon has NOTHING to a Lumix.

Am sure, I am not appealing to fanbois here - but as someone that's making professional grade in the world of photography, I can tell you this with honesty. Please take it for what its worth.

Okay, I'll bite!

I bought a Fujifilm camera, and it sucks! My wife hates it, and we keep going back to our 5y/o Canon P&S. It takes much better shots, even though it does not have IS built in. Could be just a low end A220 from Wal-Mart.

I keep waiting for a good sale for a Sony Alpha, but the next P&S for my wife will be a Canon.

Maybe not HOT, but not bad OP.

I could think of much worse things to call that stranger than "clumsy".....

@Laidbacklarkin (without quoting the super long post):

I have owned this camera and amazingly also owned a Fuji F20. I generally liked the Fuji, especially the fact that it was actually larger (I'm a man with man hands...) and it was much easier to handle. However, I definitely found that the Canon SD780IS took better pictures and above all...Fuji uses XD which is annoying as hell. To each his own I guess.

Very true. Its never a good idea to call a picture from one camera better than an other shot by a camera that's equal in creation. There are shots from my friends Canon SD870 that turn out nice. But I have had consistently good shots from my Fuji's (and I don't mean use in the Auto mode) and not so consistently good shots from my Canon's. And this experience ranged across models from both brands. So I was just sharing my thoughts. Thanks for your time and good luck with your purchase.

Seems like a lot of people disagree with your assessment of the camera.

My go to pocket camera is whatever the latest version of the Lumix super zoom is, currently the DMC-ZS7.

I have owned multiple small Canon point and shoots to have something to easily slip in even my jeans pocket.

I also got sucked into the Fuji hype in the past. I currently own a F-40 and the pictures are totally meh.
I have a old Canon SD400 that runs circles around it.

Each to their own but I will be sticking with the little Canons for the ability to slip something in my pocket.

Pics of the hot girl friend?

This is why I LOVE the fw community, y'all are so polite. It's a bit hard to detect sarcasm online but I had no ill feelings towards the stranger. In fact, he insisted on paying and I had to refuse him many times. It's just one of those difficult situations... which is exactly why i'm on the market for a reliable tri-pod now.

I hoped this post would be humorous but i was serious about my HOT girlfriend. any woman you LOVE will be the hottest woman in the world.

Thank you all for the greens! I hope you enjoy the camera

and sorry bozo, she's alllll mine

For the SD card, Amazon shows:

"This promotion has ended. Please visit Today's Deals in Camera, Photo & Video for current offers."

Never mind... Still worked on checkout.

This was on clearance at Staples in Washington PA for about $115 before coupon. YMMV

Picked one up. Appears to be an older model which I was unable to find at any local B&M. Too bad I didn't pick it up when it was cheaper, but if I had bought it locally, the price difference wouldn't have been much with the additional tax and no free SD card. Hopefully the camera will be as good as the reviews even though the "2 day" shipping ends up being 5 days...

^ Yes, it is an older model, and it seems it would be cheaper than this. It was $110 at walmart on closeout in June. Adorama had a refurb for $110.

Several other deals in the past that are similar to this one. Seems it would be cheaper by now.

well, it's canon, so the price drop isn't gonna be any time soon, they just fade out the older model, the price @ around 100-150 is as low as you are gonna get.

Regarding the post dissing this camera, this is their "mid line" in the SD series, The 900s are their flagship with bigger sensor, and the bottom of the barrow 1000s have smaller sensor than this. So for 100 or w/e you're getting this unit for, it's worth it.

Canon has average hardware, what makes their picture look good is their processing units, it's quite nice, this is why you see a canon with similar spec (in the P&S world) of another camera will usually out do it, it's also hella more expensive too.

Regarding the fuji P&S, only their F line (also their flagship line) is good, and it's heads and shoulder above their other lines, so it's hard to compare, the current F200 is like 300 bucks, not comparable .

Is it made in China?
