YMMV, but I couldn't find a sales associate so I called the main number. The operator told me I'd have to order it online for $600. I then found a sales associate and he scanned it at $366.98. Good deal? You tell me? Brick and mortar only based on my phone convo with store support.

Nice deal, very YMMV of course

Anyone else confirm this?
OP, where are you located? Great deal

how good is this camera? reviews says its 2 yrs old. So there any better newer models?

Camera technology peaked in 2008, and since then has been declining due to the increases in sub component commodity prices, namely soilent green. There are no better models, and never will be until the end of tiiiiiime!

no better models since the last two years - no camera manufacturer has released any new models since the XSi because they just cant better it

I am seeing $671.71 in online

Sears deals are hard to come by

navadog - Looks like you are catching some sarcasm for your question. So...I bought the XSI in November and I love it. If you are new to a DSLR camera, I would go for it. It was positioned as the predecessor to the T2i which will run you about 3x the cost currently. The single biggest difference is the ability to capture HD video on the T2i, whereas the XSi does not have video capability.

The T2i has more megapixels, but depending upon your needs, the XSi will be more than enough. There are some other minor difference, but those are the two biggest.

If this is your first DSLR purchase, I would highly recommend you grab the kit at Sears. You will find that you will either catch the camera bug, and you will want to upgrade your camera in a few years or it will be a really nice point and shoot for you. Its a great camera, and a great deal. Be warned though that the camera is the cheap part of the equation, Lenses can be very expensive. However, any lens that you purchase for your XSI will be able to be used on a future DSLR if you wanted to, or you could resell.

Provo, UT OOS and said it's discontinued... trying Murray now... Murray OOS on the XSi, but said that had the XS for $499... not looking like it's a deal in UT.

Does this kit come with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens? Anyone have and item or stock # we can look up?

edit:
This is not a Sears pic, just one I grabbed off the internet. Am I looking for this?

This one here??

Compared with newer cameras intended for the consumer market (Canon T1i, T2i & competing models from Nikon/Sony/etc), the primary thing this doesn't have is video recording functionality. Aside from that, you don't have a whole lot to gain with regard to features and picture quality. If you just want to take pictures, you'd be better off buying an older body (like this one) and spending the rest of your money towards lenses.

53473???

Post title says kit, so it most likely does come with the lens.

i bought just the body for $99 from Sears when they had posted the item for $329 on SearsOutlet
and I had to complain that it was a demo and missing parts (no lens, battery etc). I ended up buying the 55-250mm lens from frys for $150 and am very happy with the camera.

so it was $99 in store?

Checked in Boca, none in stock and no word on price.

If you notice, its Sold by Antonline.com on the Sears.com website, and there is no store pickup option.

just to be clear, it's clearly B&M, but are you calling stores to check stock then? I prefer not to do that. Is there any tool for checking Sears in store stock online?

Are Sears clearance prices set per store, or are they the same at all stores?

Quite possibly the best response this year.

How good of a camera does a person need? The major limiting factor of a photograph is the photographer. The XSi will be miles better of a dSLR than a potential photographer who has never heard of it. If you're stepping up from a point and shoot, it will take you years of practice until you're limited by what this dSLR offers you in quality. By then you can save up to buy a 1D MarkIII

The newer Rebels have video, that's the major difference. The other differences are incremental in nature (more megapixels, some more shooting options, etc.) that 99% of the people won't notice in actual usage.

The XSi is a great camera, with this one Canon finally added auto-ISO which is nice for a camera that shoots high ISO so well.

i think the deal is with refurbrished (Reconditioned) rebel

A year ago, I bought the body with two lenses (15-55 and 75-300 Canon lenses) for $500 dollars from B&H.

Cheapest place to buy a new canon DSLR?

It depends on how you would talk to the manager there. Keep in mind that most of manager would want to "clean up" their discontinued stock, and he/she would mark down the clearance price more to get rid of it. I got my dyson openbox at Sears for 79$ look like new.

Nice find OP.

Apart from OP, who else?

just scored one in nj for 243.xx after tax. Came with everything

This is the EXACT one I got at Sears for $320 last month (I posted it in a Canon xsi thread here and got red for it but the clown wouldn't say why!) It's a STEAL!!

It is a 2 yr old model but it is awesome. They had it on clearance for $400 and then as a July 4th special, all technology clearance was an additional 20% off.

For a starter DSLR, it's not a bad camera. The Rebel line is the cheapest of Canon's DSLRs. The thing is with DSLRs is that the camera will constantly be replaced by new models. Put your real money into a decent lens as you'll most likely replace your camera body at some point, but will still use the same lens. The 18-55 IS that comes with that kit isn't bad, but it's not great and it's not a fixed aperature lens either. Do your research on the different models that Canon offers (Rebel, X0D, 5D, 1D lines) to see what best suits your needs. Just keep in mind...put your money into your lens(es) and don't worry as much about the camera body other than that it will suit your needs.

If you do jump, this is one of the best bang for the buck lenses you'll find to go on your camera. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1020624/ Canon 50mm f/1.8

Wow, Sears is confusing. I went to the Outlet website and found that they have no outlets anywhere near where I live. That's probably because it's one of the richer areas in the country and is not a "Sears Outlet-type" area. The closest refurb camera available is in Media, Pennsylvania. Who knows where the heck that is?

The only thing I know about Media, Pennsylvania is that where some uranium allegedly went missing some thirty years ago...and before that, I think the radical priest Daniel Berrigan and some nuns poured blood on some draft board files in Media Pennsylvania. You might remember the story.

Now they don't even have the draft, just registration.

Can you post the B&M location of Sears in NJ?

There seem to be quite a lot of Sears in New Jersey... Not sure which location you're looking for.

I got the floor model yesterday from North Brunswick, NJ for $279 + 3.5% tax. I personally think not bad as I put it on my AMEX with the additonal one year warranty. Came with no box, but everything else was there. 18-55 EFS lens, charger, battery. I charged the battery and it works great.

Went to the store, a junior sales guy pulled it on the computer and said to himself something is not right when it showed at $399 (it is markjed at $649). He called the Manager and went in the back to look at the stock. Nope nothing, and he cannot even order. I asked the Manager about the floor model, and he said he will put Code 991 and see what comes up. 991 is when it is a floor model, with no box, no manuals. Came up with 30% off the computer price, which is $279.

Time will tell if it was a good buy.

does anyone have the Sears item #? i went to the closest Sears yesterday and the sales associate told me he couldn't check the inventory with out the item number. i saw this number (#53473) on the Sears outlet site for xsi, but it doesn't have a lens

I wasn't actually asking if it is a good deal. It was a good deal for me. I don't need the HD video capture on the T2i since I already have two camcorders and an iPhone 4 that shoot HD video. Plus with the money I saved I can buy another nice lens.

I owned the XTi that I bought at Sears. Solid entry level DSLR, and now I own the XSi which has great reviews and yes it came with the 18-55mm IS lens kit. So far it works great.

Btw, I am in The SF Bay Area.

Calling stores doesn't seem to help since my store didn't even know they had it in stock until I pointed it out in the lockup. This is definitely a YMMV for in store only. Good luck!

Sears outlet link for the XSi.

the item number from those that got these would be helpful... thanks.
