There is no similarly equipped laptop than a mac.
17 inches, full HD, LED screen, 5 hour (real world) battery life, 6 lbs, 1 inch thick.
No such animal except for a macbook.
Trust me, if I could get those specs anywhere else, I would.
My next laptop is likely going to be a macbook with Windows 7 on it because the hardware is so far above and beyond any other laptop.
Edited to add: This is a great price, but it's obviously the older version. If your speed requirements dont' require an "I" class computer, then this is a great deal. I thought about it myself but will end up with an i5 (if I can live with two cores) or an i7 (if I decide I need 4)

There is no similarly equipped laptop than a mac.......... yeah, right you can get HP with better config for $600. HP is little chunky but costs 40% of what this overpriced m/c costs.
I purchased two MBP and one Macbook from eBay with Bing CB and Mr.Rebates. To me this is the best way of buying Apple products. However, Bing will end of this month so, probably will not worth it anymore.

OMG dont even compare Crappy HP to Macbooks. Unless you have owned one yourself you have no right to compare.
I was always one who couldn't justify the extra price for the Macs, that was until I got my 1st one last yr (13inch MBP). The Mac book pro is great, OSX is way more responsive then VIsta/7. I love the touch pad on the mackooks, the gestures make all the difference. I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

Link to the config you are talking about?
Otherwise, wrong.
I'd love to see a 600$ machine with no compromise other than size to the 1600 macbook. LED screen, 17 inch, full HD, high end core 2, same battery life.
If it has all the other characteristics I mentioned (and only sacrifice size, as you imply in your post) I'll go buy it.
There are 13 in stock at my store (Overland Park). It's B&M only. There is a drop down at the top of MicroCenter's site that allows you to pick the store for pickup.
I bought my first macbook a year ago and I will never go back. Until you own one, do yourself a favor and keep a little respect by not trashing what you don't know.

tried them all - and they are decent, nothing too special - it gets too hot and is not a light laptop, feels heavier than it should.
Best laptop in the world right now imo is the Thinkpad X301 at least for me. Unbelievable form factor, weight and ergonomics - it doesn't get better than this. Its going to be discontinued soon and I'm going to pick up another one for backup soon when I find the right deal. Try one, you'll likely get rid of your mackbook unless you're a fanboi.
Years ago IBM made another perfect notebook, it was the 600X - the X301 is like that
despite the high price, imo mbp offers a good balance of multimedia performance, batter life, quality built hardware, and simply UI. all i can say is, if you have the money, you will not be disappointed by mbps. dont get me wrong, i love windows 7 and i love PCs. im just one of those lil sluts and loves PCs and Macs
