They're still offering a free printer.

Question: We are not buying for a college bound kid, but our bound for middle school kid. Can we still get the free touch (which we would save to be an xmas gift) or will they require us to prove that it is for college?

You don't have to prove anything. If you buy at the Apple Store, they do ask for a college id. But if you buy online, you just put in the name of the school and that's all. They are also running the $100 rebate on the purchase of a printer with a computer in addition to the free iPod touch.

pmaggan - have you actually gotten the rebate? When I "live chatted" the Apple Store, they said I would need to send in a copy of a student ID or acceptance letter. We really want to do this deal (want to get the touch for an xmas gift for one of our kids) but the oldest is still in high school.

Has anybody else done this deal - do you know what kind of proof you have to submit that the computer is being purchased for a college student?

Thanks for the tip on the printer - we could use one of those too. Though they charge $50 more for the printer we want than Amazon, and we would have to pay sales tax, so I am not sure it is that great of a deal.

Don't forget, the Microcenter has the 13" MacbookPro for $999 now. It has the metal case, and a few more extras over the low end plastic model.
No free ipod Touch though...
BUT, With the money you save there, you can get the NEW iPod Touch coming out very soon! Watch for the announcement on Sept 1, 2010!

sartor - don't confuse me!

Our current plan is to get the entry level iMac, since we have a laptop. We could then give our PC (desktop) to the kids (theirs is about 8 years old). I have a touch, and both kids really want one. DH says he will get me an ipad for xmas, so one kid would get my touch (current version) and one will get the free one. One advantage is that both will end up with the same version.
