I have never seen a laser even half as powerful below $2000. i don't know how they are even allowed to sell it to any random fool without a license.
I am merely posting as this is a good deal for the price but i have to warn that it is not something to toy with, it is a really powerful laser capable of seriously burning any organic lifeforms.
A human could go blind by just seeing the light projected on a regular wall, yes you heard it right just the reflection from a wall will do that.
My pet cheetah loves chasing the blue laser around the courtyard of my castle. Unfortunately the laser reflected off the ivory tiles I have surrounding my inground pool and the cheetah is now blind in one eye, but I found a FAR eye patch to put on him and now he looks like a pirate.
Does anyone how far a blue light goes? I saw this on fark today and I guess that it's right at the threshold of the human visibility spectrum (which is what makes it so dangerous since you can't "see" it as much).
Even 5mW Green lasers seem to go forever because it's right in the middle of the spectrum and our eyes are more sensitive to that wavelength than others.
LASER HAZARD ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Before Wicked Lasers you can place your order for a Class 4 laser, we require the following:
▪ Check the boxes above to Indicate your understanding of the 8 items above. PLEASE READ, do not just check everything.
You are purchasing a Class 4 laser (for visible beams above 500mW). Class 4 lasers can cause eye and skin burns, and can set fire to materials. This is NOT a laser pointer. This is NOT a toy. You are responsible for the safe use of this laser. As a responsible laser manufacturer, Wicked Lasers requires that you acknowledge important Class 4 laser safety principles:
THE DIRECT BEAM IS AN EYE HAZARD -- KEEP IT AWAY FROM PEOPLE. Never shine this laser towards a person's head, or where a person might be or might suddenly appear. (This also goes for pets and other animals.)
REFLECTED BEAMS ARE ALSO A HAZARD. Prevent exposure from reflections off of shiny surfaces, and "back reflections" off of glass and window surfaces. Even a fraction of the beam's original power can cause eye damage.
THE BEAM IS A SKIN HAZARD. This laser can burn skin, especially at close range and with darker skin colors.
THE BEAM CAN BE A FIRE HAZARD. This laser can burn materials, especially at close range, with darker material colors, and with more easily combustible materials.
NEVER AIM THIS LASER TOWARDS AIRCRAFT OR VEHICLES. The bright light from this laser can distract or temporarily flashblind pilots and drivers. This can happen even at great distances. (For a 1 watt laser, the beam can distract pilots up to 45 miles away.) Be EXTREMELY careful any time the beam goes into the sky or near a road.
For green and especially blue lasers: BLUE LIGHT HAZARD. Exposure to intense blue light can cause photochemical retinal degeneration. Avoid exposure of many minutes to light between about 380nm (ultraviolet) to 530nm (green), with the strongest peak at around 440nm (blue).
MISUSE CAN BE HAZARDOUS. Monitor the laser operations at all times. Keep away from children, immature persons, or persons who do not understand Class 4 laser hazards.
MISUSE CAN BE ILLEGAL. Obey all applicable laws. People have been arrested, fined and jailed for misuse. Do not aim at aircraft, cars or other vehicles. Do not aim at law enforcement officers. Do not use to annoy, harass or distract other persons.
For more detailed safety information, please see our Safety page
The diodes sell for ~$50 from Cree. Thus, there is a pretty good chance that we will see similar lasers for less than $200 in the not-to-distant future.

I think these sit on the shelves of B&Ms right next to the Happy Fun Ball.

It's too POWERFUL for civilian use! Please, Congress save us from the threat of people armed with Weapons grade lasers running unchecked by written law all over our streets, it will be like Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica in all our cities! Oh the horror!

I am not saying this is not dangerous but realize that this is a 1W device. So for example it would take 1000 time longer than an everyday microwave to heat a cup of water.
Site said: Warning: Extremely dangerous is an understatement to the power of 1W of laser power. It will blind permanently and instantly and set fire quickly to skin and other body parts, use with extreme caution and only when using the included eye protection. Customers will be required to completely read and agree to our Class IV Laser Hazard Acknowledgment Form.
Hmm ... so, what you are saying is that I probably shouldn't use this for a client presentation?

Seems as dangerous or even more so than a loaded gun in the house since it can injure so many people at once
Might it be useful for personal protection?
It's more dangerous than a loaded gun. People fully understand what a loaded gun can do. People have no clue how dangerous this laser is. You need safety glasses to even use this thing without blinding yourself. I wonder how long before we hear about someone turning this thing on and getting blinded by the reflection of light off a non-reflective surface like the wall in their house or shooting this thing from a window/roof to see how far the beam goes only to start a fire. It would probably only take a second for one of these things to start a brush fire in a dry area.

By definition a "non-reflective" surface is a diffuse surface. The reflected light will no longer be directional but hemispherical -- that is, more or less equal intensity in all directions. It will not be much stronger than say a 1W LED (Cree, Luxeon, etc) flashlight and that not when you directly look into it but when you shine it on a wall and look at the wall.

This will come in handy during the next deer hunt. Once the deer is blind, it'll be a lot easier to track and kill. Would this be legal to use for a night hunt?

Well only if they're clients from hell and you want to blind them all.
"Muhahaha! You'll all see my superior presenting skills and it will be the last presentation you'll ever see! Muhahaha!" [wringing of hands ensues]

I have never imagined how powerful can a 1w blue laser pointer be. That's pretty cool!
