Hey guys,

I figured the best way to get your attention would be to just start a new thread up entirely. First off, I wanted to let you all know the Free Stuff FAQ is coming along nicely and should be done within the end of the week. In addition:

We've discussed making the FAQ button either bigger or more noticeable in some way.
A Free Stuff Posting Wizard is feasible, but first we have to finishing rolling out Hot Deals Posting Wizard.
Categorization will probably be coming to the Free Stuff eventually, but it should not result in too much extra clutter for those in Classic View.
The Auto-Repost Approval didn't work very well in the past - it barely caught any reposts - so a new one might have to be made.
$10 remains the limit for Free Stuff, however, we are now going to cross-post the deal in both categories instead of locking one and keeping the other.
Lastly, a Free Stuff Header (STOP! You are about to post in the FREE STUFF Category) will be added soon after the Free Stuff FAQ is completed.

The most pressing remaining matter is what to do with the Rewards (KISS, Coke Rewards, etc.) We're discussing moving it to Contest & Sweepstakes and renaming the forum Contests & Rewards. This would cut down on clutter for Free Stuff - especially in Classic view - but we wanted to see your opinions before we decided to do anything definite.

Rewards don't belong in Contests and Sweepstakes unless they're a contests or sweepstakes - i.e., with chance involved.

Hey dkong,

Under this new setting, Contest and Sweepstakes would be changed to Contest and Rewards, so it would technically fit in that topic. Still, I think you have a point - it could breed conflict for Free Stuff down the road.

I was hoping doing so would remove some of the clutter, like the 8 or so different REDBOX threads as well as other similar code or answer-based threads.

If is is free, then it should be in the free stuff category. Coke rewards are free because you do not have to pay s&h. And I would buy the product with or without the codes!

I understand you are trying to avoid clutter; IMHO the FS forum itself doesn't seem that cluttered to me (and I use Classic) in regards to stickies. To me the 8 or so Redbox threads look worse than ONE Redbox thread that's a sticky (just a suggestion). I think more people would be apt to post their Redbox codes in the proper thread if the thread was a sticky; whether that be in FS or in Contests.

I'm with dkong on this one - those threads seem more appropriate for FS because you get something FREE out of it, no chances involved; even if the Contests forum is renamed to include Rewards.

Okay - if this is the consensus and no one disagree I'll tell Paige and the other mods we'll keep the rewards here for the time being. We have space for at least one more sticky - probably REDBOX - but I don't think the sticky option will work on all codes, or else the FS forum will get too cluttered, but we can at least take care of the eight or so REDBOX reposts.

I agree it makes more sense to keep the Coke Rewards, Redbox, etc in the FS section. Just another opinion.

I agree, too. It just makes sense to have free stuff in... well, Free Stuff.

How about a Rewards subforum category within FS?

Ok, am slow.

So, for a free product with a value over 10 bucks to be seen in FS, it needs to be posted first in FS and then a mod will duplicate it in HDs?

right?

Okay, so I got more clarification from Paige, so here are a couple things I just learned:

- If a $10 deal needs to be cross-posted, it's up to the user's discretion. I think the consensus now is this is a user duty, not a mod task. While we want good deals to get good exposure, we're not going to swoop in and lock $10+ deals in the Free Stuff forums anymore.

- Many of the Rewards aren't actually in the Free Stuff forums. The Coke and Pepsi codes aren't technically in this forum. Surveys aren't supposed to be FS but have made their way back into the forums. The current definition is rewards are freebies you are given for completing surveys, quizzes and perhaps contests. The idea we were floating was that all the Rewards would be better served in Contest & Reward, and might re-energize the forum.

Again, I want to know what you guys think.

I still think free is free and rewards should stay in FS if it means you get something free. I don't personally mind surveys being in FS if you get something free out of it.

Agreed. If free, stay in FS.

I agree also. I'm a mom of two little boys and I have limited time on the PC... I don't really ever check out the sweeps & contests page 'cause I'm not interested in that kind of stuff. I really don't want to miss out on the free rewards I get occasionally because of not visiting another forum. Please keep free rewards in Free Stuff!

Keep them in FS, if clutter gets to be a problem, you'll start to hear it from the FW community.

But MyCokeRewards and Pepsistuff in particular require that you make purchases. If you have to buy something to get a reward, it isn't free.

Would Coke/Pepsi rewards be better suited for the Grocery forum? It's not free, you have to buy product to get the points. It is a grocery related item. Thoughts?

and you can trade for points

Actually all the codes I've entered (not incuding a few codes that were posted) were from pop bottles that I either found on the ground, or people left at my house after bringing pop. So, I've never had to buy anything for my rewards.
