Looks like it's going to be free this year. Last year you were required to donate at least $1 to get ice cream. In any event, it's definitely for a very good cause. Your donation of any amount goes a long way! The Make-A-Wish at Cold Stone lasts for the whole month of September and not just 9/30 (but you only get free ice cream on 9/30).

Note that not all Cold Stone will be participating this year on 9/30, so check with your local store before heading out.

Fine print - Free ice cream refers to 3 oz. sample of Kate's Creation served out of a ready to love pan in a Like ItTM cup. Waffle products and extra mix-ins available for additional charge. Valid only during published date and time. While supplies last. No substitutions. Limit one per customer. An estimated 85 percent of all donations in September will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

Actually, I think it is only on September 30. The "all month long" part is:

All month long, Cold Stone Creamery is helping make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Visit any Cold Stone Creamery store and show your support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by purchasing a Make-A-Wish paper star for just a dollar!

bump for free ice cream this thursday!

it's tonight!

If I didn't have mountains of homework due tomorrow I'd go and get some ice cream

According to the promotion on the site you do still have to make the dollar donation in order to get this "free" ice cream.

That's incorrect. There are two different promotions going on, one is the month-long promotion that you can buy $1 dollar star to benefit Make-A-Wish. The promotion tonight is a free promotion with donation appreciated/benefiting Make-A-Wish. Even a penny is okay as every penny counts!

As background - The promotion last year that "required" a $1 donation last year for the ice cream social did not go well... It resulted in less foot traffic that generated less donations to Make-A-Wish.

Hope this clarification helps. Please look at this detailed site - http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/promos/makeawish/index.html

The promotion starts in just 45 minutes in the East Coast!

yeah baby! who can turn down free ice-cream! AND a great way to give my young nieces awareness about helping foundations like these.

This year, many Cold Stones around the country refused to honor the free ice cream offer. Many stores would ONLY give you the "free" ice cream if you PAID $1 or more. There are lots of people posting to Cold Stone's wall on Facebook. It seems that every time that I have gone to the cold stone in Champaign, IL, they have ALWAYS pulled something like this. They won't honor their own daily deals, won't honor their coupons, or just add random charges on to my order for things I didn't order and didn't receive.

Read all about the shenanigans here: http://www.facebook.com/coldstonecreamery

Tonight was probably the final time that I'll be at any Cold Stone.

The Cold Stone Creamery I went to yesterday were friendly and professional. They greeted us each with a ticket to exchange for the ice cream treat. We had no issues at all.
