The gift cards are "Southwest Gift Card" cards, so, they are likely valid only on Southwest Airline tickets...

Flyertalk says "Supposedly targeted for the denver market, but I don't see why anyone else can't just click on through and sign up." I don't think that is as strict as the 32 RR credit targeted offer. I might have chance it.
Here's the fine print on the GCs. I've bolded some interesting info:
Chase Fine Print said: Qualifying transactions must be posted within 90 days from account opening. Qualifying transactions include purchases, balance transfers and any checks that are used to access your account, but exclude cash advances. You will receive a $100 southwestgiftcard after you make qualifying transactions totaling $1,000 or more, an additional $150 southwestgiftcard after you make qualifying transactions totaling $2,500 or more and an additional $250 southwestgiftcard after you make qualifying transactions totaling $5,000 or more. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Southwestgiftcards cannot be shipped to PO Boxes or addresses outside the 50 United States and Washington D.C. This bonus offer is valid only for first-time Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers. Existing Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers are not eligible for this bonus offer.
So say you open the card, buy something, pay it off, BT $5k, pay it off. You're out 3% of $5k plus the credit hit from the application and interest (note that there is NOT a 0% APR on BTs so you'd have to pay it off pretty quickly). In exchange, you get:
16 Southwest credits for first purchase (good for 1 roundtrip).
4 Southwest credits for BT over $4800 (can get up to 8 if you BT $9600 or more).
$500 in Southwest gift cards. Presumably you actually fly Southwest if you're interested in this, but you could also exchange it for $400 in cash or $420 in Amazon GCs on PlasticJungle.
Sounds pretty good to me. Of course, if your monthly spend gets you up to $5k in 3 months, that's probably cheaper/easier than BTing; you would get 4 Southwest credits' worth in rewards from spending that much, even if none of it is on Southwest or its partners. Has anyone who's not targeted/in the Denver area gotten approved for this offer?
Does anyone know how to check how many points is needed for a particular Southwest flight. On their website it would not let me see the points needed until I signed in. Once I signed in it told me I didn't have enough point and would not let me proceed.

SMOKING deal. Applied for 2: 1 for me, 1 for the wife.
It'll be a challenge to spend $10k in 3 months if we're both approved. Thinking I might get denied, as I just got approved for the United card / Kindle deal (also Chase) 3 days ago...
The reward credits expire in 1 year. Something to keep in mind.

I couldn't resist this one. No instant approval though. Got a call from the Chase fraud department this morning to verify my application.
I'm not very optimistic about my chances. I got denied for the Chase BA 100k mile deal because my income "is not supported by my credit report". I'm self-employed, so I don't see how it would be!
At least I ended up applying for a Delta SkyMiles card at the same time, and picking up 35k (pretty worthless) miles.
Will Chase approve me for a 5th card? Lets find out! DW needs to do this one, for sure.

Do you guys know when you can use the points for the free ticket after the first purchase? I need to fly somewhere on 7/23. It would be great if I could use this deal to make it free. Thanks.

Chances are there won't be any rewards seats available that close in time. (For example, many flights Labor Day weekend are unavailable for rewards, but maybe on a random day you'll have more luck.) You could use the gift cards, but you probably wouldn't get them in time.
Your credit card application has been received and we will be sending you a response via U.S. Mail within 15 to 30 days. In the meantime, please refrain from submitting any additional applications. We will only be able to consider your first application.
so, are we supposed to create a new SWA Rewards account before applying for this to qualify for the offer?

Would anyone know if there is someone to retain the RR credits, if I were to not use them towards a roundtrip flight during the first year (i.e. while avoiding the annual fee)? For example, can I somehow route the RR credits into my Southwest account?

The annual fee is not charged the first year if you use the 2nd link in the orginal post. If you don't use the credits for a ticket in the first year, you can reactivate them for a $50 fee to use in the next year.

I got 15 days notice as well. Hopefully Chase will approve me for personal card #5 (I have one business card with them). For the BA card they made me reallocate the existing credit lines I already had with them.
Been looking for a decent deal on a SW card. This is a good one since the 32 credits offer is so hard to find.
Don't forget there's also a business card, and you can count your "sole proprietorship" of selling stuff on eBay or whatever as a business. I applied for both.
Just signed up for this card. Now I just have to find a way to spend $5000 in 3 months. I had a plumber put in a new water heater and do some other work, and at the end he said he took cash or checks. I was thinking to myself if this was a few weeks later I might be taking him up on the cash offer and dumping 800 dollar coins on him.
