I have been looking for a good pocketable camera with HD video for a while now. I was finally about to purchase the SD940IS from Amazon.com when I found out that this camera is on sale for $157.41.
The reason why the FP8 has been my second pick before is due to it not having a lens cover and the price was about similar to the canon that honestly I would have paid the extra few bucks for a much sleeker looking camera.
But with a price difference of about $60, I gladly bought the FP8.
It beats the SD940 in some areas as well. Most notably, it is a quicker camera so that night photography is actually possible with this little camera. Also, you can optically zoom in while in video recording mode, something that the SD940 lacks.
I got one from the third party for $165, not from Amazon. It is a good deal regardless. I just bought a flip mino for my wife, but I guess I have to return it since this FP8 is a better buy and has more functions.

Yes at $165 it is still a heck of a deal. The Amazon deal was a bit better for me because I was able to use prime's 2-day shipping. And you are correct that this is a much better buy than the Flip Mino.
I want the TS1 to come down to that price...its pretty much this camera but waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof...i might have my way since the ts2 is coming out
