I don't understand why Dell stick in the previous age - wired network expect to support gigabit for every computer few year ago

You can also get a Dell mini 10v for $149 with the purchase of this laptop

yup, you sure can. you can also get the lappy for less with Dell epp and or bcb
good luck

no HDMI output

I'm looking for a laptop priced around $500 and am strongly considering purchasing this one. Do you guys think I should wait for more deals to come out or is this a decent enough of a deal that I should jump on it? It's got to be a Dell, not because I love them, but because I have a $350 gift certificate.

the i3 in the machine along with 4gigs of ddr3 ram, 6cell battery and the other bells and whistles with a 14.0" HD WLED screen for under $500 makes this deal a definite buy imho.
good luck either way

Also, HDMI would be nice, but per mist this doesn't have it. Which Dell laptops have HDMI?

any estimate on battery life?

I'm torn between getting a i3/i5 cpu or one of the ULV cpu. I wish Intel would come out with the i3/i5/i7 ULV cpu already!

It looks like this has GMA 950 for video. Will this be able to handle 1080p? I am guessing that the horsepower of the Core i3 can help with the decoding.

edit: Apparently I was looking at an outdated specifications page on Dell (they do not keep their web site very clean). It looks like these machines have GMA HD, which is a pretty good graphics solution, almost as good as the AMD 785G.

This is quite a tempting deal, especially if I could get my EPP coupon to work.

Look at the gallery, it shows and lists HDMI in one of the pictures.
Not sure what's accurate the pictures of the tech spec listing?

yeah, thats a good question and a good thought about the new intel cores being ulv...
while this lappy isnt ulv it does get a 6 cell batt and has a 14 inch screen which will sip less than your usual 15.6...

Well, Intel has announced more C2D-based ULV processors through summer/early fall. All indications are that the i3/i5/i7 ULV processors won't be out until Q4 2010 or Q1 2011. I'm not sure I can wait that long But yes, the 6-cell and the 14" monitor plus the fact that it's LED rather than LCD should help the battery life a bit. I'm just curious if anyone had a sense of how long it can run.

It has HDMI. We have two of these.

Pulled the trigger for the laptop and a mini with 6 cell. Total with tax is $703.93 after a 3% dpa. Have not seen the Bing Cash Back email yet.

Thanks OP....

If anyone is not going to take advantage of this deal and has an EPP $50 off coupon code they aren't planning on using, i'd be very grateful to you if you'd share it with me

do yours have integrated gfx or discrete gfx?

integrated

C3:

Can you confirm the built-in network card is 10/100 or is it 10/100/1000 (ie gigabit)? I'm about ready to pull the trigger, but I'm sitting on the fence regarding the card. I just can't believe they would put in a 10/100 card with this being 2010 and not 2001.

Because if you've got a gigabit connection then you probably have enough money to buy a better laptop than this one.

I pulled the trigger and got one after confirmation of HDMI...

I know that the i3, i5, and i7 are the new Intel chips are they an improvement of the Core 2 Duo and Quad Core? I am ignorant of the difference. Is there a website that can educate me? I look at the processor speeds should I be looking for something else? Is it worth paying a premium for the new chips when the Core 2 Duo and Quad Core are sufficient?

I hate to say it, but your logic doesn't add up. You say people who want a gigabit NIC should look at a more expensive option, but point out you bought it since it has HDMI. HDMI in a laptop is still a premium feature (that is starting to become mainstream). Gigabit ethernet isn't anymore.

core 2 duo -> i3/i5
core 2 quad -> i7

whether or not it's worth it is completely dependent on you. there really aren't many core 2 quad laptops though so if you want to multitask, i7 is the way to go.

I currently don't have access to one, but I think it's 10/100 only. That's one of the items separating Inspiron and Studio lines.

Both i3 and i5 have 2 cores. i5 = i3 + turbo. Only i7 has 4 cores.

would love to get a $50 off epp coupon if anyone has one to share

ahh you're right. i was thinking of the desktop series. i forgot intel wasn't thinking properly when they designated the mobile line.

Thanks everyone for confirming 10/100. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it would still have been nice to have it!

In for one..just gotta hope this really does have HDMI

cheap onboard Gigabit ethernet is mostly for marketing purposes. There are so many computer and network configuration considerations that most people barely get more than 100Mbit speeds. OTH, 100Mbit connections almost always get close to the maximum

perhaps they will have easy configuration options later. the way it's setup right now is awful. just to figure out it has a discrete card option i had to pick one and then pick an obscure option on the right asking to upgrade to it with pre-configured upgrades.

was about to pull the trigger but i realized i'll probably need a discrete card (albeit, even a crappy one). just started to delve into XNA development, but it looks like a discrete graphics card is a must for that stuff. too bad you can't add one for more money. i guess i'll keep waiting...

When I go through Bing for the BCB, the price is $549.00, not $499.
The link provided in this thread still has the $499.00 price. Help

Never Mind, I keep answering my own question....I found the deal on the Dell site, they make it easy to purchase this Lappy, and not get the deal...

BTW, you can get the "17 inch version w 1 GB less memory for $100.00 more.

No, $50 more.

Is this deal dead? Looks like it is back up to $600 (EPP discount has been reduced to $52)
