Thanks OP. I just bought a similar unit for 179.99 and havent installed it yet. Mine is 1/2 HP, so figured id call in on this one and return the one i have.

Unfortunately after discussing and being on hold, the CSR informed me that the unit is "on sale" and not "regular price" and therefore is excluded from the 15% discount. He is right, even though the website shows that "special offer" in the right corner, it doesnt actually apply to this item.

I looked at some hammers that are not regular price, and the 15% discount isnnt lsited on the right.

So the web site shouldnt be displaying that offer, but it also shouldnt be applied in the cart for this item.

YMMV on this depending on who you talk to or how "foreceful" you are.

I may order and retturn mine anywa, as this is still a great deal at 179.99 + free shippiing.

Also, my first post here Thanks everyone for the great deals.

great post OP, i just got off phone and customer service credited me with $26.00+ off the order, and i did use the $5.00 off when i placed the order, my ancient opener has been very weary lately, thanks again, CS did say they are trying to get someone to correct the issue, which means the discount may disappear

I have been shopping for a GDO for a while as I'm in the same boat my ancient GDO could fail anytime, this is the best price I have seen so far. Great to know it helps!

Just bought four shipped for free. CSR took my order over the phone and got the $152.99 each price.

Just ordered two garage openers online for $179.99 each minus $5 coupon plus tax. Then called Sears to ask for 15% discount ($152.99 after the discount). The CSR said the 15% does not apply to this item but she would send my order for review anyway. The review would take up to 48 hours. Then I called again. The second CSR saw the first CSR's note about my previous request on their system. I asked the CSR to cancel my order. He put me on hold to talk to his supervisior. After a few minutes, he said his supervisior approved the 15% discount but the refund will take up to 10 days.

Well, I can't be called a real FW'er yet! I went through the process online, didn't get the 15%, and stopped just shy of pushing the Buy Now button and called CS. They listened, offered apologies, and offered 5% but said they could not honor the 15%. I said thanks but no thanks. I then called back, got another CSR, and said I'd thought about it and was upset that they would not honor what was posted on the website. She apologized again but said it was a web mistake and they were working on fixing it now. I told her it didn't seem right and that grocery stores honored "mistakes" when they were advertised. She put me on hold, and when she came back, she said she tried to put the 15% through but the system wouldn't let her. She said she could give me 5%.
I admit, I took it. I'm so ashamed. But we NEED a new garage door opener and I didn't think I could find a decent one any cheaper. I didn't even get the 2%CB since I placed it online.
Please don't remove me from the boards for this spineless acceptance. LOL

I ordered while still on the site and immediately called, they refused to honor, stated an error, and would not budge.

20 minutes later the website had been changed to reflect only the $179.99 price.

The 15% error was on all garage door openers, they CSR manager said the 15% was meant for all "tools".

I need the item, and it's a decent price at $179, I may just keep it and let the credit card company decide if I should get the discount or not if I mail in the printout showing $152.

Showing 279.99 now at link.. 179.99 in cart.

This is still a good deal. Thanks. In 4 1, returning my previous purchase to store.

Same thing happened to me. They said it was a price mistake on their web site that they already new about, and they couldn't sell it at that price. So I figured if they weren't going to honor it, fine, just cancel the order. But they said they COULDN'T cancel the order, the order was already being processed. I called within two minutes after ordering. The web site said $153, and said the price would be reflected during checkout, but I checked out and it still said $179. But the catch is, once you check out, it can't be cancelled! It's one thing to not honor the price, but another thing to not allow you to cancel once you find out you're not paying what you thought you were paying.

So anyway, I then called corporate, and got someone who just kept reminding me that they have disclaimers on their web site about price mistakes. But my issue wasn't the price mistake, it was not being able to cancel the order. Their solution was to refuse delivery, which is all good and fine if you're home during the day. The woman I spoke to just didn't seem to get how wrong it is to advertise one price, then charge another, and not allow you to cancel it. At one point, I pointed out to her that they are somehow able to physically ship something within two minutes of me placing the order (she actually told me at one point it was already in transit), yet almost an hour has transpired since my first call where they said they already knew of the price mistake, and they still haven't been able to press some buttons and fix the web site. In the end, I spent about an hour on the phone and she finally decided that if I faxed her proof that I received the item, she would credit me back the $27 difference, but she implied that she would only do that if I told her I would shop at Sears again.

It was an unbelievable experience.

Just called and got the CSR to give me 15% even though I couldn't show her the discount online. great deal!!

As said in my previous post, the CSR got approval from his supervisor to give me the 15% discount. But today I received an email from Sears that they will not honor the 15% discount. I have taken a screen shot of the $152.99 price. I will call the corporate on Tuesday.

Anyone convert from the older 1/2 HP chain system to this one? Is it pretty straight-forward replacement job?
