As an apology for their airline pilots' strike last week, Spirit Airlines are offering 5,000 Free Spirit frequent flyer miles to literally everyone who has an account, whether or not inconvenienced. You'll get your miles within 45 days of registration, which closes on June 30.

I was one of those inconvenienced passengers last week and you could not pay me to try to fly Spirit again. They are absolutely the worst in terms of customer service and my expectations are pretty low. I am still trying to get a refund for a round trip flight but they refuse because they claim I was aboard the outgoing flight. How does an airline not know exactly who is on their plane? I few out with a different airline from a completely different airport. I have no problem that they had a strike and I had to make different travel arrangements but just give me my money back.

Good deal, however the paying $400 for a checked bag and $100 for a carry-on negates the deal.

also up tp 25,000 more points by applying for their credit card. http://3freeflights.com/
Maybe I'm lucky, but I've been flying Spirit for years and have nothing but good things to say. I think my flight was delayed once by an hour or so, and I had one flight canceled due to a storm. They took care of everything though and put me on a flight for the next morning.
Add that to the fact that I don't think I've ever had to pay more than $50 total for a round trip, and Spirit's got a loyal customer here!
I second that. All my flights on Spirit within US have been under $50 round trip and once I even got a round trip from FLL to LAX for $50, can't complain. I been to Central America on some very cheap fares. I always kept my expectations very low when flying Spirit and couldnt be happier everytime I fly them.

Haven't received my 5000 miles yet either, and now they refuse to give them to me saying I never registered. I received an e-mail from them on June 17 offering a $50 OFF coupon and the 5000 free miles. Below each offer in the e-mail was a button-bar-link. When I clicked on the 5000 mile offer I got to a screen that read in bold letters "CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE REVEIVED 5000 BONUS MILES" Below that was the fine print explaining the miles would post in 45 days, only one offer to a customer, etc. That was it. Now I am told I had to fill out some kind of registration form. Anyone else have the same or similar experience? For those of you who did receive the miles, how did you register for them?

I filled out the form and now they say that I didn't register. THIS AIRLINE SUCKS!!!!! Lots of horror stories about flights being cancelled and people having to wait three days for another flight. I cancelled my membership and will never take a flight on Spirit again.
We are happy to address your concern and sincerely apologize for any inconveniences incurred. The criteria and instruction were, clearly, illustrated on our web site, www.spiritair.com for our 5,000 bonus miles promotion in conjunction with a new booking using our 50 off coupon. Provided the required registration form was completed prior to 11:59 PM, EST, on June 30, 2010, the miles were posted to qualified FREE SPIRIT members on or about August 15, 2010. Each FREE SPIRIT account can only register and receive one 20,000 mile bonus.
Nothing on the website said anything about buying a ticket.

Can someone who actually got the 5000 miles please tell me what kind of "form" you filled out to qualify, and if anyone else was denied the 5000 miles, please message me if you had a similar experience to mine.
I did not fill out any "form." I received an e-mail from SpiritAir offering me both a $5o off coupon and the 5000 miles. With each offer was a link. When I clicked on the 5000 mile link offer, I was not lead to any form, but rather got a screen with this message "Congratulations! You've received 5,000 FREE SPIRIT bonus miles" Beeloe that were the 45 days and one offer per customer fine print.
So I to am being denied the 5,000 miles because of not filling out some sort of form. So I am trying to get to the bottom of this so-called "form" issue.

I suggest you give up - you were scammed, aceept it.
I filled out an online form after I clicked on the 5,000 mile link at the bottom of the webpage that had sale prices on the top...I got my miles in late July.
My daughter received her 5,000 miles - she's at almost 15,000 now (she's in college and travels home back and forth alot). Gotta luv these cheap Spirit Air fares. I also signed her up for the $9 club so she pays half as much as I did YEARS ago on the old People's Express (and I thought that was cheap).
Anyway, how do you redeem miles? I thought I'd ask here before I call a rep and speak to someone in India.
Spirit has the worst FF mile redemption system. You basically send them an email with a form and a day later they tell you whether they will let you use miles. If you can figure out their arcane redemption tiers you might have an idea of how many miles the trip will require in advance.
