Personally, I won't buy a mattress made by the Seally Mattress Company and all of their subsidiaries and sub-brands. They refused to honor the 20-year warranty on my Stearns and Foster mattress. Done. Never again. I'll only buy a mattress now that carries the Good Housekeeping Seal, because they FORCE the companies that carry it to honor their warranties and such. The only two mattress companies that still carry the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval? Tempurpedic and Sleep Number. Those are the only two brands I'll buy now.

I can really relate to your concerns. I just went thru the same thing and finally bought one from Costco simply because it was less expensive than any others I saw and Costco has a guarantee that will allow you to have the mattress returned (at their cost). You can use most any credit card if you order thru their online site and the mattress will be delivered. Another suggestion is to look at all the mattressess that Costco lists on their website and for each there is a description of the mattress. You might be able to use this information to compare other mattresses. Best of luck.
Costco's return policy could help matters, but how long do you have? If the mattress has a 20-year warranty, can I bring it back to Costco at any point during that warranty period for a full refund? Of course, all of this is predicated upon your having a Costco nearby, and we don't even have one in the entire State of Louisiana.
this topic has been discussed several times in the last few years. older threads contained good info from seemingly well informed FWers on how to compare mattresses from different retailers despite different names.
just simple solution.......costco online delivers things to your home....and also picks up returns (for example mattresses) from your home...you just have to call them and ask. I've known and seen people doing this! hope this helps!
I would go with Costco on the mattress, then maybe spend $ in a few months or years on a 2-4" topper- with heavy density foam. Some of the mattress stores try to sell $1600-$2400 mattresses which is quite a bit of coin.
Yeah this weekend is a good one, as far as mattress sales go. It is almost impossible to reliable compare mattresses from one store to the next though. You can try to write down which one has what and compare, but its such a pain in the rear. I was preparing to buy one at a matress store (be prepared to spend $1500 and up for a good king size, but I think I just may get the 'top of the line' king size at SamsClub for about $800..
After picking either of the above as base, you will need a 3" 5lb topper. 3" 5lb King Isoform/Bergad topper. (aired out for ~2-3 days)
Quote from "thrashmetash" $229 for the 8" King size Spa Sensations mattress at WalMart (I let it air out for ~5days) $247 for the 3" 5lb King Isoform/Bergad topper. (aired out for ~2-3 days) $50 for the 12" Velour mattress cover. (eBay or Amazon) I also spent 20-$30 at Lowes for some 5/8" boards to put over my existing box springs. I didn't want to put the foam over bare box springs. The boards are cheap insurance against damaging the expensive foam. (oh, and I covered the boards with some cheap material..)
Any more advice would be greatly appreciated since I'm looking for a set of mattress too.

If you get the signals from the Philadelphia market or other markets that they are in, then you may have heard of The Dump in their ads. (The radio ad is also on their website.)
The advertise closeouts that they acquire. They have inventory of mattresses including fancier mattresses types.
