iPhone preorders start in exactly one week. Don't be late or you will miss out. Price is $199 - $299 w/ contract, $599 - $699 w/o contract. Ways to decrease the price:
- Use BCB 35% off ATT (may or may not work)
- Use employee discount (I checked mine, $50 credit on any new line)
- Buy the phone w/ contract and take the $325 cancellation hit afterward (may be cheaper than buying the phone outright)
- Any other ways to get discounted iPhone 4?
Plans on iPhone 4 start at $55 pre-discount. There's no way you're getting an Evo plan that cheap. With Evo you're looking at $80 minimum pre-discount.
Major features on iPhone 4 include retina display, gyro, teleconferencing, Farmville, Netflix, iMovie, iOs 4, A4 processor and much much more.
I'm really waiting to see who else will be carrying them at launch. Best Buy, WalMart, RadioShack, AT&T, and Apple all should be able to. BB and RS both offered discounts or gift cards on Evo's, and lines would be significantly easier to deal with at RS, but I also have a few hundred in BB gift cards, so that's what I'm hoping for.
I doubt CashBack will work on them regardless though. When buying an iPad, I checked fw, ebates, mr. rebates, bing, upromise, chase ultimate rewards, and I think one or two others; nearly all of them offered CashBack from apple, but not allowed on the ipad...I'll bet the iphone 4 takes the same route.

Dev team says the unlock is ready.
Dev team has a working Jailbreak and Unlock for iOS4.. not necessarily the iPhone4. The new iPhone4 may have a newer bootloader or hardware that prevents their exploit from working. It's impossible to tell right now because no one has a iPhone4 yet.
The Dev Team actually had a carrier unlock for 3.1.3 months ago. They purposefully withheld it because they knew iOS4 was coming and they did not want them to patch it when it was released. So the people with 3.1.3 had to suffer a couple months so that they can enjoy an unlocked iOS4 device. But there is a good chance that the iPhone4 is unlockable.
@TSx. I was under the impression that ONLY AT&T and the Apple Store would have it on launch day which is the 24th. But I could be wrong. If Radio Shack, WalMart, and Best Buy are going to carry them, then hell yeah. more places to drive by that Tuesday morning. lol.

ATT employee discount? Is this available to everyone?
3gs will still be worth something, maybe $200-$250 once everyone starts dumping theirs. Best to sell now.
BTW the $50 credit (someone asked) is a corporate discount for a company that I sort of work for. I'm not sure about other companies, if your company has an employee discount with ATT then you should login and check. I see the discount at the first login screen.
Why the red? I guess the guys who now own an obsolete Evo for the next two years are out in force.
Reminder guys, don't forget to pre-order your iPhone Tuesday. Word on the street is that preorders start at 8:00 AM Pacific time BUT it hasn't been officially announced yet. Any time from 9:00 PM Pacific time Monday night to 8:00 AM Pacific time Tuesday is a possibility so make sure you don't miss out.
I had a chance to try out the new iPhone and all I can say is WOW.

Yes, I would say it is quite a good deal. Really you probably want the $25 data plan, it will be tough to get by on 200 MB. But you can try 200 MB and AT&T will let you switch to the 2 GB plan if you go over, so no harm in trying.
iPhone price is $40 + $25 = $65.
Sprint EVO price is $70 + $10 = $80.
Yeah, Sprint includes text messaging, extra minutes, whatever.
1. Text messaging is a joke, you can and should get it disabled on your iPhone. No sense in using SMS when you have a SMART PHONE that supports better protocols like oh maybe email, Skype, gtalk, AIM, etc, etc. SMS is dead.
2. Extra minutes are useless for most people. DATA is what we want and 2 GB is more than enough for the vast, vast majority of iPhone users.
Basically Sprint is charging $80 for a half-finished half-done corner-cutting phone that has many flaws. AT&T is charging $65 for the best phone in the world. Take your pick.
extra data is available for $10 per gigabyte, not a bad deal. It would take someone to be doing a lot of hulu to get to 3gb. We use our winmo phones on verizon as mobile routers quite a bit, along with constantly being online and we have yet to crack a .75 gb usage.
At the store they had a promo for shared lines and family plans. It was a "port credit" for $50 each line with a maximum of $200 credit. If you are changing carriers and on a shared plan this may be a hot deal. They did not know about it through AT&T telesales. This may be better than Best Buy or Radio Shack.
All I have to say is goodbye Verizon - tired of waiting for your iphone (which will never come and would be crippled if it did). Verizon has provided horrible data service since the Alltel merger. If we were still on Alltel we would not be moving, it was the best set up we ever had.
BTW I got 450 mins + UNLIMITED data (still available through my work portal) for under $55 a month. See you later Sprint, nice knowing you. So long and thanks for all the SERO.
Just preordered at local att store. Their system is definitely down since they manually took my credit card info. I will keep my unlimited data since it is a 30 day exchange instead of upgrade. whooooo

Funny stuff, too bad your EVO has more build quality issues than a hut in Hati. I've lost track of all the things wrong with EVO... light leakage, screen not grounded properly, battery drains after a few hours, obsolete OS, just too many to list.
Anyway have fun with your obsolete EVO, we're all getting the new iPhone.
