I have heard a rumor that:
"Staples 11/27 has the buy HP $50 ink and get 20% ink rewards and $4 per recycled cartridge. Limit 10."
I have nothing to substantiate this.Interesting since that week will encompass TWO MONTHS (Nov 27 - 12/3).
Although, it is break even I think....
Normally you'd get $40 ink rewards.
Here you would get $80
but have to spend $50 in ink with $10 in rewards back at 20%....
spend $50, get an extra $50 in rewards back, so free after rewards HP ink up to $50.The limit is 10, so you get only extra $30 rewards for spending $50.I think that may not apply to premier, limit is always 20 for premier. The last (or last several) offers where capped at 10 for both standard and premier members.
hi, anybody on this forum knows if i use my rewards from ink cartridges in Staples to buy an item and pay the rest of the amount with cash/card, would i get a gift card back or cash/credit on the card?

yes, but they were paying $5 per cart then, so it was still break even ($50 rewards for $50 in ink spend), so there would be little incentive for premier members to do this deal if the cap was still 10.

Do software purchases count towards your qualifying merch?

Do software purchases count towards your qualifying merch? Yes, provided not paid for with rewards.
Computers are desktops and laptops.
Computer hardware, software and accessories, provided not paid for with rewards, are qualified purchases.
I appreciate an answer to this in advance. I think I know the answer to the question myself, but just to confirm...
I'm totally new to the recycling program. I recycled 10 carts in Nov, 20 carts in Dec, at OfficeMax, but I've made no purchases there. So I know I have to make a purchase within the next day or so or say goodbye to my $90 back.
The Boise X-9 10 Ream Case of paper thats $41.99 and then you get $32 back in rewards... "MAXPERKS EXCLUSIVE. GET $32 BACK IN MAXPERKS BONUS REWARDS ON BOISE X-9 8.5" X 11" MULTIUSE PAPER, 10 REAM CASE (ITEM# 21403152). LIMIT 2. NOT A MEMBER? JOIN TODAY."
If I buy 2 reams of this, which would be $83.98 before the rewards... I'll get $83.98 back, right? I don't see anything that would exclude this but I'm just checking. Thanks in advance!
(Well, $83.98 + the $64 back from the paper purchase I mean...?)
I was all set to buy a Kindle Fire since it didn't say they were excluded on the front page but then I noticed the exclusion here on page 9 of this thread as a qualifying item so I'm guessing the front page FAQ is outdated. Now I'm hoping I can buy the Kindle Fire with the rewards instead of buying one to qualify for them.

The purchase of the case paper with bonus rewards attached will earn the bonus rewards and count as a qualified purchase for releasing the recycling rewards as long as the purchase is not paid for with rewards.
And when you received your rewards you should be able to purchase the Kindle Fire with them.
Qualifying Purchases
Qualifying purchases are any products or services in our stores, catalogs or web site except for computers, tablets, eReaders, gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards, SprintŽ service plans, sales tax, purchases with a Retail ConnectSM card, purchases made prior to the date of enrollment, and purchases made with your MaxPerks rewards.
Thanks so much for answering! NOW I am finally understanding why people shop at OfficeMax and the other office stores. For the longest time, I wasn't seeing it!
while non-paid-out recycling rewards might carry over from quarter to quarter and then expire at year end, qualified purchases do not carry over from quarter to quarter for recycling program purposes.
rewards will expire at the end of any quarter in which you have earned less than $10 ("Unpaid Rewards"). The rewards include standard (10% on paper, ink, etc), bonus (100% back in rewards on, etc.) and recycling.
Hmm... are we sure these still apply? A couple of days ago I called OD to ask about a rewards check and asked about how rewards carry over. The rep stated that nothing carries over quarter to quarter - that since the change went into affect July 1st the last carryover was from Q2 to Q3. The rep got the right answer to my tricky question right so I'm tempted to believe her about them not carrying over but the terms state differently. Maybe we'll have to see what happens when Q4 rewards are issued?
Additionally, I have not seen anything in the last 6 months or so in the TOS about any kind of year end expiration.

So if you recycle 10 carts every month at OD you can make a purchase in q4 and free up all reward money? But for example if you recycle 4 carts in q3....that money wont carry over? The tos is confusing

If you recycle in a quarter, you must have qualified purchases in the quarter to release the recycling rewards so no, you can not recycle every month and then make a purchase in the 4th qtr to release the year to date recycling rewards.
"neither unreleased recycling rewards nor qualified purchases carry over from quarter to quarter for recycling program purposes."
EDIT: If it was the FAQ q/a that was confusing I hope the update has made it clear.

The word no " postage stamps" make me nervous. I think it count as service. what do you think
thanks
UPS used to count. Haven't done it for awhile. Like the other poster I only did USPS when they had the $100 free deal.
Postage stamps don't count, but "shipping" service, ie, a box sent by Express Mail or Priority Mail should count. It has to coded as "shipping" for it to count.
Please state if generic cartridges are acceptable. A reputable member stated earlier that Staples does but I don't know about other stores. Please update the the summary or first message instead of replying a question on here. It is really had to go thru all of the messages. Search in topic does not always work well.
I appreciate OP/or other people who keeps summary section updated since it really increases browsing efficiency.

Everyone should have.
Thanks. I didn't for some reason. I met the spending requirements. Ugh. Will have to contact them. You need to have recycled and had qualified purchases in the fourth quarter as neither unreleased recycling nor qualified purchases carry over from quarter to quarter.

Yup, that's how I understand it. I have $4200 worth of purchases that show up in December on my rewards account along with the 3 months of recycling.
Staples Rewards just anounced a new Membership level, contradictory information on recycling at this time:
Staples Rewards Plus Get automatically upgraded to Plus status when you spend between $500 and $999 on anything in a calendar year. Excludes taxes, delivery charges, coupons and gift cards.
A Member is automatically upgraded to Plus status when the Member's account reflects $500 of spending on all products and services at each or any combination of Staples U.S. stores, online at Staples.comŽ and/or by phone at 1-800-333-3330 other than taxes, postage stamps, delivery charges, pre-paid phone cards, Staples gift cards, third party gift cards and any other categories that Staples has excluded. Member spending qualifying for upgrade is the amount paid at checkout after application of all coupons, discounts and Rewards redemptions.
A Member retains Plus status for the remainder of the calendar year in which they qualify and the initial following year and must re-qualify in that and each subsequent calendar year. Member's account balances are reset at the beginning of the calendar year to $0.
Plus Members are issued Rewards online monthly when a minimum of $5 has been earned. Plus Rewards balances of less than $5 will be rolled over month to month and will expire at the end of each calendar year. Plus Rewards, once issued, expire at the end of the fifth month following issuance of the Reward. Plus Members are eligible to earn Recycling Rewards (as described in Section 6) on up to 20 ink or toner cartridges per calendar month. Plus Members also receive free delivery on all orders, and, from time to time, Plus-only in store events, offers, free products and services.

Nope. Only 10 for Plus. Quite a few people have confirmed with SR it is only 10. Including those showing Plus as their account status. Web site is wrong.
"StaplesPlus has a special phone number to call to avoid waiting, free shipping, $5 spending for rewards rolling, but only 10 ink trade ins."

OD sent a clear message to us: No need to spend more than $60 per quarter -- $240 per year -- at their store.
This is so true and should be understood by everyone new.
